Annually, the Swiss OpenGLAM working group unites cultural institutions, software developers, digital humanists, artists, Wikipedians, and other enthusiasts with a shared goal of advancing openness within galleries, libraries, archives, and museums (GLAM). Within the collaborative environment of GLAMhack, we engage in joint experimentation and innovation, exploring the realms of cultural content and digital tools. Our focus spans research initiatives, web and mobile applications, Wikipedia, and various other applications, all aimed at fostering openness and creativity.

Under the theme “On the Move” GLAMhack24 objective is to trace the movements of individuals to and from Switzerland and further away, capturing the imprints they leave within cultural heritage collections such as images and letters. Our aim is to reintroduce these historical footprints to present-day users. Additionally, we envision the capability to transport individuals through time, allowing them to experience the discovery of artifacts firsthand.

Join us for GLAMhack24 (6-7.9) at the Zentral- und Hochschulbibliothek Luzern (ZHB), where creativity meets innovation. Create prototypes utilizing open cultural data to enhance the digital transformation of the GLAM sector.

The GLAMhack24 official program starts on Friday, but we are working on a possibility to participate in a side programme already on Thursday.

Pre-Event

We have decided to organise a pre-event one day before GLAMhack24. We will meet on the 5th of September at the Neubad in Lucerne. There will be a workshop on GLAM & Digital Humanities. Afterwards we will have a small meal at the Neubad and then there will be an evening programme. The evening programme consists of a performance by Ivonne Gonzalez. You are welcome to attend the whole programme or just the workshop or the evening performance. We look forward to seeing you there.

Workshop GLAM & Digital Humanities (15:15 – 17:15)

The Swiss network for the digital humanities DARIAH-CH has decided to set up a GLAM Working Group. The new working group’s mission is to strengthen the cooperation between the Heritage Sector, the Cultural Sector, Public Administration, and the Digital Humanities in the area of data and data infrastructures.

If you are a researcher, work in the cultural heritage field, or are otherwise interested in the topic, you are welcome to join us for this workshop where we will start devising the action plan of this working group.
